The race to replace Gibson

Both the Republican and Democratic committees are making back room deals to get their chosen favorite the nomination of their respective party. They are doing this at the expense of the rank and file members, who have had little to no imput in the process and they are doing this at the expense of the process itself. This congressional seat will be one of the most competitive and expensive races in the country, no exaggeration both sides will spend millions to try and win this seat. It's a swing district that leans Republican but has had Democrats such as Kirstin Gillibrand and Scott Murphy represent this district. In a presidential year in a Blue state like NY with liberal counties in the district like Ulster, we are talking 12-18 thousand more Democrats than normal that will vote for President and down the line Democrat, that coupled with it being an open seat Dems have a great shot winning this year.

First though let's talk about the Republican side, John Faso is the establishment candidate and seen by the party as the best choice to win, Faso got crushed in 2006 by record margins against Eliot Spitzer in his bid for Governor and narowly lost to Hevisi a few years before that in a bid for State Comptroller. He has served in the Assembly for many years and helped a lot of Republicans and will be able to raise decent money but he's an old wine in a new bottle, he does not have what it takes to win in the general, in my humble opinion. The guy that has the best shot for the Republican's to keep that seat is Andrew Heaney, a successful businessman in the district that will be well funded (he's already launching tv ads) and has a great story to tell. Heaney should be who the GOP is looking at but unfortunately a lot of the committee chairmen, including Under Boss Roger Rascoe is blocking Heaney from a fair shake, in favor of Faso. It's a dumb move, we encourage the boss of the family Jim Quigley to intervene on this one. Speaking of Quigley eight years ago Quigley and Auerbach ran against each other for the newly established office of County Comptroller, Auerbach won one of the closest  county wide races in our history, I can't help but think it would be entertaining to see a rematch between the two of them for Gibson's congressional seat.

Lastly on the GOP front for Congress, county chairs should take notice that Heaney probably will have the endorsement of both the Independence and Conservative party's, if Faso is the Republican nominee you might as well hand the election to whoever the Democrat is that runs.

The Democrat party is not doing much better, they originally put out a press release at the end of December with all 11 chairs supporting Hein who ended up fucking them over and declining to run after an elbarete dog and pony show. Now they issued a similar decree in favor of carpet bagger Zapher Teachout, who I love, she's a great woman, she's smart, sexy and very capable but she's not from the state, she is a NYC elitist that is running in a district she is very new to and this district does not like that, look at Republican Jim Tedisco who lived a few miles outside the district was extremely well known and favored to win the seat that was opened when Gov. Patterson appointed Gilibrand to Clinton's senate seat in 2008 and he lost to a political neophyte in Scott Murphy. We just witnessed two years ago how the district reacted to the candidacy of Democrat Sean Eldridge who despite spending a shit ton of money and being married to the co founder of freakin' Facebook, got his ass handed to
him.

Furthermore, we are disappointed to say the least that Frank Cardinale has chosen to sign on to the candidacy of Teachout when our own County Comptroller is considering a run, it's at the very minimum disrespectful to Auerbach who has been pretty loyal to Frank, loyalty quite frankly that Cardinale doesn't deserve. I saw the poll numbers during last years Executive race, Auerbach's favorbility numbers are higher than any Democrat in this county, Hein has more name recognition but his favorbility is no where near as high as Elliott's numbers are, he is a serious contender and we can't help but think Cardinale is being pressured by a jealous Mike Hein to nip Auerbach's candidacy in the bud. Hein's philosophy is simple, if he isn't gunna be Congressman than no one from Ulster County will be either, it's that simple, that's the kind of boss he is. Lets also not forget that's the kind of boss Andrew Cuomo is too, he can't be happy that the party is entertaining Teachout's candidacy with such enthusiasm after the way she busted Cuomo's balls relentlessly during her primary election against him and Cuomo spares no prisoners as we all know, his raft makes Micheal look like a cub scout. Besides Elliott and Teachout, Julian Schreibman and Dan Ahouse have also mulled a run. Ahouse was Hinchey's right arm and was seen for sometime as the Congresman in waiting, he's knowledgeable and a force to be reckoned with, Schreibman of course ran against Gibson crushing him in Ulster County and doing better than anyone expected against a popular incumbent, an open seat on a presidential year, the Ivy league Yale graduate who was party boss for several years is more deserving than this Teachout broad and could win. After getting burned by Hein we think it's so stupid the party would again endorse publicly a candidate that has yet to announce, especially when there are other better candidates that have announced that are being ignored.

Both parties are preparing for war on two fronts, the last men/women standing of the upcoming civil war for the respective party nominations will battle it out in a bitter nasty war that will continue until November. The Dems want that seat and the GOP doesn't want to lose it. It'll be fun to watch for so long we were spoiled with HInchey that we never got to witness a good hard fought race for a house seat. This race is worth paying attention to. Overall we think Auerbach is the best person to represent us in Washington, whether or not he runs and puts himself out there with the disrespect he is being shown by Cardinale remains to be seen.

  1. Mr. g. Come on, Frank Cardinale is Chair of one County in the district. He announced that not every County Chair voted for Teachout. Spelling is wrong, I know. For heavens sake she beat the Gov. In UC. Ahouse waited to long to join the race and Auerbach is taking to long to make up his mind. One other point Mike Hein would love to see Auerbach go for the seat. I'm disappointed in your column today, while you are giving your predictions it shows you are not really in the loop. This Teachout has all the far far far left endorsement, I hope she doesn't get it but wouldn't bet on it. I love how you keep telling everyone how much you hate Mike Hein, we know you are up Bernardo's ass and can't think for your self. You hating Hein gets him more followers silly.

  2. Wait a minute, I've heard Cardinale's back peddling but either Cardinale is lying or Teachout is lying, I hope it's the latter, I hope she's starting her campaign out exaggerating her support. She issued a press release that stated she was endorsed by all 11 county chairs, the Freeman ran a story about it, Cardinale didn't have a correction out in the paper. She posted about her unanimous endorsement on Facebook as well, why lie about that? Cardinale is trying have his cake and eat it too it seems? What does this have to do with the Bernardo's because I doubt they are supporting Elliott. Are you saying Mike isn't thin skinned? You think he'd be thrilled if Elliott won? Yeah I guess I'm out of the loop I missed the memo that Hein is now a team player that cares about good of party or the good of anything but the further advancement of Mike Hein.

  3. Also I don't hate Hein, not even a little bit, I disagree about his style and some of things he has said and done but I don't hate him at all.

  4. The Freeman had an article that said Cardinale stated it was not a unanimous vote for Teachout. I'm a Dem and don't support her. I like Auerbach but don't think he will go. He has it made where he is. I'm happy Hein made the decision not to run, trade a 4yr term for 2 didn't make sense to me and to be one of many, not a good deal. He made his decisions pretty quickly, Auerbach is taking to long. As far as style, Hein is the point man, good or bad decisions are all on his desk. A lot of responsibility. I love your blog Mr. G,but don't always agree with you.

  5. I will be putting my support behind Andrew Heaney. I am not going to support any career politicians in the next race. Time to wipe the slate clean in Washington and bring in businessmen or women who know how to make deals of any kind to actual help the taxpayer and ideas to create jobs. Gibson came in as an outsider and limited himself to only 3 terms. Will be refreshing if any other candidates do that. Same with Albany.... too long at the feeding trough creates crooks. I am not a democrat, republican or independent. I am a NOP as Board of elections likes to designate. Go with the person NOT the party. Heaney will be in Kingston on Feb 3 at Ole Savannah for a Meet and Greet. 6-8pm .

  6. All the Dem County Committees Chairs in the district met, interviewed candidates, Elliott couldn't make it, Teachout got the must support, not all. Will still have convention opportunity if another candidate wants it badly enough.

  8. Auerbach over Teachout any day. We have to get behind Elliott he's the best pick and we want a guy from this county, none of our local representatives are with the exception of Kevin Cahill and Frank Skartados. Our Senator who I like Amadore has been better than I thought and has a good Kingston staff but it would be nice to have a Congressman from Ulster County, Auerbach can pull this off and the Ulster Democratic party should be pushing this, we produce the best Democratic numbers in the district no offense! I also agree no way Albany's Prince of Darkness can be excited about giving Teachout a seat in Congress.

No doubt more knowledgable and capable than Steve Noble who seems to be your biggest nemesis on here but you lose credibility with some of the posts that are written. This post is good, interesting and informative. You should consider more posts like this than the tmz style direction it's been heading. I see a bright person with low self esteem when I read those attacks, I don't think of a future leader I think of the sadness of wasted potential. Being smart and having low self esteem and made up enemies, paranoia ect what did it do for Shayne Gallo? Food for thought.

    1. Hein ain't so great. Just wait for the next budget my friend. Hein thought he would have moved on to the hallowed halls of Congress and someone else would be left to deal with this catastrophe. His election year budgets, those of the 0% tax increase, are now coming home to roost. Word on the street, Fair St. to be specific, is that he is now turning over every rock to prevent a 10% +/- tax increase. Sit tight and watch him desperately thrash about as he once again targets poor people and those who are in dire circumstances one after the next with budget cuts, mandates, and anything under the sun to cut his budget or increase his revenue. If the Legislature has any sense, or quite frankly any balls at all, they will let him flap in the wind. What goes around, comes around Mr. Hein. You can't bully everyone who crosses your path and expect help and cooperation when you need it.

    1. Well if folks would read your own drivel on yuku where you are the "Black Knight", they would discover a side of you that puts "Shayne to shame"(say that three times fast). The difference between you and me is that I tell the truth and you are happy to villify me at the drop of a hat with a bunch of blather like this. Harry Truman "told the truth and folks thought it was hell" and you wouldn't be interested in that because you are a "Democrat"-- in name only--and history taxes your brain wayy too much. Your inferiority complex remains stunning--and the only question remaining is why you have not acted to hack into my computer lately as you did multiple times before in order to break through your inferiority complex? Come on, don't tell me you've lost that ability now....don't be disappointing now..
Secondly, I was referring to taking care of the needs of an elderly person when I described my experience with the county executive's office, which as you must know the Dems pushed for with goons standing over everyone at polling places while they cast non-secret ballots that year. And now that we have a county executive there is no improvement at all in county government that I can see. Then again I actually used it by putting it to the test(and it failed and failed miserably--but don't let the facts get in the way of your animus, please--your best skill is denigrating others as if you are still running for something)-- perhaps more to the point tried to use it-- to try to help an elderly person and came up with my opinion based on experience--but why confuse your ignorant self with facts? Facts don't matter when ignorance marries discrimination and bigotry. Keep up the ad hominem attacks. I predict that finding you drinking somewhere will continually make you run out of the place like you did at St. Patty's day some time ago while you were riding high in elected officialdom(which was entirely a fluke and the only folks who don't know it include yourself and anyone else truly delusional and ignorant). You wouldn't know anything about helping anyone else, inasmuch as you became addicted to helping only yourself, and you feel "entitled", just like the supposed folks you ignorantly and discriminatorily and pathetically decry, revealing yourself moreso than a drink flying in the air ever could. Keep projecting your own shortcomings onto others. All the nuns have been kept posted on you, and none of them know whether to laugh or cry because your viciousness has those ladies in such a tizzy....oh, and by the way, they say your homework now is to take the phrase "non existence life", compare and contrast this with the phrase "non existent life", and determine at the end of your essay which phrase better expresses the thought you wished to express here. And no cheating--Mother Dorothy will be UPSET!! And yes, I am familiar with Mr. Anonymous 10:55 and so should everyone here be. We know all about you. We know who you are and what you are. All that remains is for you to decide to grow up--but, since that is unlikely, at least we all know who you are and what you are. Maybe you should move back to a blog you claim no one reads. Or get appointed to something in the city. I mean, ya know, "happy days are here again"....so you say....or sing(I can't picture you singing, but then again, if your buddies in the mafia ordered you to sing, I bet you sang....). Magari! Magari!!

  26. After all of the Democratic County Chairs, Chairman Cardinale included, selected Executive Hein several weeks ago, everyone else became the runner up or 3rd choice. No way to start a campaign if you ask me. I wish we had seen the same level of encouragement for other candidates,
Comptroller Auerbach included as we did for Hein. Instead we got crickets which opened the door for someone like Teachout to walk through. It is not her fault, it is the Chairs who decided that it was a good idea to give Hein a head start. It backfired now we will have a candidate with significant baggage (pun intended) who will have to learn the whole district instead of just some of it. If there
was better communication, maybe more people would get involved. Instead, it is an insiders game and if you are not an insider, you are no one. Cardinale has to go.

One should note that Hein is in fact trying to get that money back, albeit though a different channel, he is still trying to get it back. It was right to question his intent at the time and force him to codify it. Apparently the increase to 71% accompanied with a significant increase in state aid to DSS resulting in a net gain of over $3,500,000 to the county which Hein tried to railroad from DSS is not part of your facts are facts rant. The Republicans (Hein included) are are only carrying out Heins wishes to get that safety net money which back by hook or by crook. I say give Mayor Noble and Executive Hein the opportunity to come to an agreement and sign new contract.

    1. Are you fucking kidding me? Do you believe that Hein was not behind this? Take your head out of your ass. This has Hein's finger prints all over it. He still has his butt buddies Loughran, Rodriguez and many ass kissing Republicans to count on too.

  46. Noble should not agree to anything less than 11.5% as it stands now. Wonder who Landi is supporting in this matter.

  47. Mr. g, I'm surprised you are not reporting on the fact that, Donaldson, Ronk, Gerrintine sponsored a resolution that gave Legislators a $4,000 raise and more to Leadership ignoring the special committee recommendations that Legislators contribute more to their Health Insurance in exchange for Salary increase,, NO WAY said these three, we will take the raise and not contribute a cent more for our Health coverage. Here is their plan, we will make Kingston and Towns give back some of their sales tax money to pay our Health care.
