New Rules

No this is not a segment of Bill Maher's closing thoughts but new rules for this thing of ours. This blog was made for the free exchange of ideas, to allow comments free of moderation and to provide local political gossip that regular newspapers wont publish and yes to entertain you.

We will continue to do all of those things and we will do so on a regular basis but we will do so with respect to all those involved in our thing, including their family both on a city and county level.

We fostered a climate were it was ok to denegrate people because we disagree with them, instead of challenging their ideas and offering solutions. For that we apologize, it was a disservice to you our readers and to ourselves the authors of this blog.

Specifically we are refering to the Noble's.  The fact of the matter is that he is the Mayor of this City and deserves our respect and his wife is not off limits because she contributes to the administration and we think that's a good thing but she is to be judged on her ideas and performance not on anything else. Julie Noble has a lot to contribute to the city that can make it better and her role should be like a co- Mayorship in our opinion.

I was at a committee budget meeting many years ago when Julie and Steve put their jobs on the line going against Mayor Sottile's back and straight to the common council to get their jobs full time and to get benifits for their positions. They pretty much stated point of fact this is the work we do, we need benefits or we are leaving and these programs will not continue because noone else can do them effectively. This pissed off  Mayor Sottile a great deal but they stood their ground and got people like Paula Childs to come to the council committee budget meetings and advocate for their positions and took abuse from Alderwoman Jen Ringwood, Mayor Sottile and others that were not happy with them challenging the system but they got their benefits.

Then again last year, my friend Mayor Gallo everyone knew probably had some temperment issues and everyone in the Democratic party wanted him gone but noone was willing to run, when Steve decided to run he was openly laughed at till the very end of the primary. Steve and his wife put up with abuse at the hands of Mayor Gallo and others but Steve Noble stood up and again risked his job and the livelihood of his family to take on a system he felt needed to be changed against long shot odds and he won.

Mayor Steve Noble and us will not agree on a lot politically but he is not just a guy with the right last name that got lucky. Mayor Noble and his wife took determined action and challenged a sitting Mayor and won, that took balls. For that he has our respect and admiration.

  1. I applaud you for your assessment. I was a Gallo supporter the first time around. I, as many were, was dismissed by him when someone more useful came along.

Steve Noble is not the naive infant so many people paint him to be. He has a sharp mind and - perhaps most importanly - a propensity to understand and study the matter at hand, and to offer reasoned and factual input or response.

When Gallo and Zweben and their puppet Swanzey were trying to sink him, he offered calm, reasoned, documented, and verifiable responses.

And I'd be surprised if Julie wasn't protective of him and involved. She's a strong woman who cares about and protects her family.

I've had the privilege to see Mayor Noble discuss his ideas and plans for the city and I find him to be a steady, reasoned thinker.

All the more troubling to a spoiled (parking) and corrupt (Irish Center) citizenry.

    1. Well that's all interesting and all, but also interesting is the fact that Sottile couldn't support his fellow Italian, and instead had to make war with him, ie, Shayne Gallo--and for what? The rule seemed to have been in his case--"the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Sottile wouldn't know a bagpipe from his own windpipe as far as anything else goes(and he never could, let's be honest...). I'd like to pinpoint exactly when Sottile went from being relatively respectful to people to being mean and vicious and nasty and pathetic. I would say at that point he lost all reason to respect him--and the fact he supports the current Mayor and went out of his way to do so is no saving grace:the man is still vicious, still a petty little bully dressed up in a frame always built like a steel wall, and an alcoholic. Seemed to me I recall him beating up a kid in first grade who called him a name--and it wasn't Shayne Gallo, but later on he projected his mean vicious bullying nature onto Shayne--and for what reason? He's the one who quit--but he won't own that. Bullies NEVER "own" what they do. Pffffft. Never seemed to be grateful for what he got after T. R. died either. An ingrate, a vicious mean bully, and an alcoholic. One example of a billion of how inferiority complexes nurtured in parochial schools turn out adult bullies, whilst he spouted the Nunsense about Sr. Dorothy turning his life around. He never did that, he got lucky and he had support and he was an ungrateful lout at the end of the day over it all--and all he did was spread his ingratitude and loutness around--and we are to think that he supported Steve Noble on the basis of anything else besides "oh he's married and has a family and I better support that because oh look at me too". Shayne Gallo was too messed up for his tastes--this is what people who are ultracritical of others do--and then this is a reason to be an enemy of Shayne Gallo--and ONLY BY DEFAULT--ONLY BY DEFAULT--a friend of Steve Noble....Sottile...what a SORRY, SORRY SORRY MAN and WHAT A MESS of a man!! Caused more lawsuits in his messy self than most people MERIT against them in a LIFETIME!! What a PIECE OF WORK IS/WAS/FOREVERMORE SHALL BE: THAT SOTTILE!!!

  2. So someone just got religion. Yes, the Nobles won and you can hand it to them. But make no mistake, it was politics. They lied when they had to and were good at strategically not answering the question. They should be challenged for what they are doing given that the buck stops with them now. Your post sounds too much like there are winners and there are losers. Move on from the election. We are stuck with what we got. So ask questions and challenge them otherwise they will continue to do what they can get away with.

  4. sounds like somebody had a come to Jesus moment..Unfortunately this is not the one time to do so... Nobles have a monopoly on city hall shenanigans and people need to beware of the "kum bah ya couple" and their claim to be altruistic. They have added to the city budget by hiring friends under the guise of accepting applications for jobs and commission appointments are a joke.

    1. Serving on a commission is a privilege. No pay its a headache. That being said Noble is a joke. This is not the person to do with.

    2. Commission appointments are coming from the city democratic committee cesspool because no decent citizen wants to be bothered with the "shenanigans" that are going on at our City Hall.

    3. Are thinking had to do with a few things. We were wrong, we sometimes have judgement that clouds our opinions and we need to listen to our consiglaiare to realize that this critism is not all about Noble. We dont even know the guy. One election does not define us. We have lost a few but we have won a dozen or more.

We will disagree on Noble policies but with respect and to the issue. What started this was seeing how the press were going after President Obama's daughter recently for spending night in NYC, mind you she is a beutiful rich young woman that didnt ask for any of this. One day Mayor Noble's son will be old enough to read this and when he does, we don't want him to read comments about his mother at all or comments about his father that take away from his campaign for Mayor. That's it. so over next week some of the content will be removed and off the internet.

    1. Some posts have four comments, no comments or hundreds. People read, it's a don't ask don't tell. Same w Cahill, during an election people read these. Yes the two bozos write pro comments about themselves. I would too. This anonymity on a blog is so easy to hide behind, Freeman same thing, people create a few Google accounts prop up themselves, attack their enemies or promote their buisness. All bullshit. This is all entertainment. These are people that want to lead us. The prole that lead us are no better in Ulster County. Nothing surprises me anymore with media and blogs and the news since it's all went online.

    2. Again dont assume you know who writes this blog or confuse someone contributing and writing. Jeremy Blaber has never written a single post. There are more then 3 authors and at least twenty people that are sources or contribute in someway. Have we ever wrote a comment anonymously defending one of us, sure I have. Our numbers are through roof, we get over a thousand hits daily without even looking at the blog for a month plus.

    4. That's a reasoned description of why the policy about the sitting Mayor and his family. There is no reasoning about Mr. Sottile though. Jamie is all grown up and all groomed up as a poll watcher. Only thing to see in the future is whether he becomes a great drink tosser and bully too like dear old Daddy. He is mature enough to understand what BS local politics is, but I am certain he hasn't yet had sound counsel on the matter from Dad.

Not merely(and I can tell you about all the kids he beat up as a child because I witnessed it, hasn't changed a bit basically in all these years), plus I believe he orchestrated something civilly illegal which the local media of course refuses to pay any attention to. "Goodfellas" is indeed the theme! And even Goodfellas can't take the heat!! A "blog in terrible taste", cries the perennially outraged Richard Cahill, Junior if one tells the truth about anything. I don't see him banging down my door to represent me in the legal matter either. The Kingston elites are all the same--have to maintain that "we're better than everyone else" image dontcha know. Kingston wouldn't be itself without this!!

He probably is touching the third rail with this issue...obviously he has never been in a private sector job or even had a business to run or actually employed people on a payroll one must meet every week.. benefits too

  15. That's not what happened. I support a full parking plan to be done, so yes I support his committee. I don't know if kiosks are way to go or not but it should be a plan deals with parking as a whole. The council did not vote for municipal lot fees last night. I'm impressed that council listened to people that spoke and to give credit where credit is due I think it's good to have a Mayor that attends council meetings. Mayor Noble is only Mayor I have ever known to do that.

  16. Interesting how deeply supportive you are of Cahill and Sottile. It's obvious you know neither one well. Cahill is a pathetic example of a self centered, don't do what I say, wAtch out. Self serving, in love with himself that's why he goes through women faster then you can blink an eye. Loves to hear himself talk, over and over about how great he is. Brags about being a good Democrat but supports Amadore and other Republicans. You don't know him well enough or you would not praise him.

The dems have an 8 to 1 majority. Even if Mills votes the other way it's still 7 to 2.
Parking kiosks would have been a done deal if the second ward democratic alderman would have shown up to vote. He decided to hide and miss the meeting. Nothing but sour grapes from the dems. Keep fighting ladies.

At the one finance meeting he attended after being AWOL he basically said he was for the Mayor's budget and it didn't seem like he was open to any discussion. Was all about the Mayor's bidding... and how a no vote would be financial disaster..the next apocalypse. seriously? what is the deal? if you haven't made kiosk purchase you have already saved $125,000. Oh but wait? Did he spend that money before the "vision" revenue arrived? Uh Oh, then his butt is probably in a sling...Mayor got to return the goodies he bought... cars, employees, bike lanes, raises, and etc.

With new Superintendent at the helm and union contracts coming to the table not sure they will have him in their corner as he is a Noble hire. Almost a carbon copy of the Mayor.
