I'm shocked that Hein isn't running after his dog and pony show with the Dem county chairs and the made up group of young college Democrats that urged him to run. This is Cahill's time, Hillary Clinton is going to be on the top of the ticket and Democrats are gunna win big in NYS next year, Hillary's coat tails will def be enough to win an open congressional seat. Which is more surprising Hein didn't run he's gotta know his chances were good. I owe our boss an apology, we assumed his ego would be too big to resist and we were wrong.
I believe Kevin would win and make an excellent congressman and I would love to see Kevin run for Congress, but I don't think he will never do it. He has a great thing going in Albany. He has tons of seniority, he chairs one of the most influential committees up there, and he is close enough to retirement that traveling back and forth to DC is not very appealing. Who can talk him into it?
ReplyDeleteHein was polling like crazy before election day on his chances for congress. If I were a betting man, I would say his polls showed he is not the rising superstar Cardinale and some of the other sycophants believe his is/was. Either Cardinale made a terrible misjudgment by soliciting all those chairs to support Hein or he was taken for a ride by Hein. Either way he should resign. He hurt any and every other Democrats chances who may have wanted to run. There are several other people in Ulster County and Dutchess County who would have been viable candidates who would have had a decent chance of winning, but Cardinale and Hein wanted to stack the deck, damage any other persons chances and discourage any competition. This highlights what is wrong with the County party and why new leadership is essential to the future of the Democratic party in Ulster County. It is Mike Hein all day, everyday and everyone else is an afterthought or not thought of at all. Let's not forget, Mike Hein was a Republican not that long ago and Cardinale ignores or works against life long Democrats whose Democratic credentials have never, ever been called into question. Hein's are on a regular basis.
ReplyDelete10 thumbs up pissed off dem, could not agree more.
Delete6:08-- what a bunch of crap. Hein was pursued because he would have had the best chance to win. Hein haters never cease to amaze me, angry men who have no life and we know who most of them support. Poor losers, live through others life because they have none. Have a Merry Christmas . Goes for pissed off Dem to.
ReplyDelete8:36 - You many not agree but that is one of the most lucid, factual, and honest posts I have seen on this blog in a long, long time. The damage is indeed done and it is no skin off Hein's nose. Don't you see that? BTW...if you believe Hein was "pursued" and not initiating the chatter, I have a bridge to sell you. What were the Washington D.C. consultants who were being paid by Hein doing here is he was not planning a run?
DeleteCan avoid all of this by looking at Republican candidates who have done a good job. I would say Gibson reached across a lot of the parties. Sorry to see him go.Looking forward in him going after Cuomo's seat. I am going to be a supporter of Pete Lopez as he has done a lot of work and advocacy in this area. No complaint or concerned is left unanswered when I have contacted him or his office. I am a democratic voter but have not voted that way in awhile. I like what I see coming from the republican party in the way of future candidates. Not impressed with what democrats are putting out there. Cahill would lose as congressional candidate. With a lot more vetting that goes into congressional races he probably could not pass the "smell" test. Rubbed elbows too much with Silver.
DeleteCahill would do better than Lopez, I'll tell you that. The bulk of the district is Ulster County, Cahill would pretty much sweep Ulster.
Delete6:26. Democrats said that about Sean Eldridge ..how did that work out for y'all??? BTW, what happened to Sean? is he still living in the 19th district? and the previous year Dems lost to a republican. Cannot even remember that democrat politician's name ! More counties out there than Ulster who vote for the best person....Cahill only big in Ulster on the state level. Out of his league in a congressional race.
DeleteDifference between 2014 and 2016? Presidential race and Hillary Clinton. Hate here, love her, whatever. She will draw huge numbers of Democrats and with that, huge numbers in Ulster County which is the largest County in the district. Enough to put a good, solid candidate over the top. Cahill could win this seat. Faso, is wacko, Heaney from Millbrook is another rich guy trying to take the seat. Lopez id too conservative to win the district overall, he is no Gibson that's for sure.
Deletesee, that is where I lose you..a good solid candidate, Cahill? Seriously?? has baggage.
DeleteCahill is a very solid candidate. Wins each election, has won the past challenged elections with 60%+. That in political parlance is solid. Any politician would love to get the results Cahill does. Any "baggage", whatever that is suppose to mean is nothing he can't overcome.
DeleteYou are obviously a Republican, at least at heart, so I do not expect you to ever be able to support Cahill or any other Democrat. I believe Cahill has a good chance, you don't have to.
11:08. I am a conservative democrat. But I will admit in the last few races I have leaned towards being a more republican minded voter. In fact I am changing my registration to NOP. Not beholden to anybody. Just the candidate. As to supporting a democrat candidate I did vote (back in the day) for Jimmy Carter and Maurice Hinchey many elections ago. Got tired of a too liberal agenda and the powers that be ignoring the conservative democrat. I am non union too. As to Cahill "overcoming vetting process" not sure that is in the cards.
Delete8:56--they were here trying to convince him to run. Sent by Chuck Schumer, they want the seat back and Hein would be the best shot to do that. Hein made the right choice, 4 yr term as Co Ex compared to running every 2yrs as Congressman. No brainer, besides he is making a good salary right here at home. Stop trying to spin garbage.
ReplyDeleteWho do you think you are BS'ing? Schumer would not pay to send people to Kingston to try and talk Hein into it. Why not pick up the phone himself? Here's why, Chuck Schumer cares about Chuck Schumer only. He could not give 2 shits about an upstate Congressional seat.
DeleteWill we never be rid of him?
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
ReplyDeleteHow many going to swearing in of Nobles?
ReplyDeleteWe will be there.
DeleteHein no stones...Cahill less
ReplyDeleteRemember the sales tax? That took serious stones on cahill's part. It took large stones to stand up to the barrage that Hein and others threw at him. Hein has stones too, mostly in twisting the success of his programs, but it takes stones to claim it publicly.
DeleteMike Hein is such an a hole he touts all of these charimen for his personal gain and then sticks it u there ass. Cardinale is another a hole as he was part of this farce.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned everyone, there are rumors flying all over the place as to why Hein backed out and the fallout. The story is that Dem power brokers that be are very, very pissed at Hein and Cardinale for the set up. Cardinale blew it, we all know that but we did not know how far down the line they allowed the Hein campaign to go until now. They are furious that Cardinale went to the other chairs for support. They are furious that they turned people away because Hein and Cardinale left them thinking Hein was their man. They are most furious that Hein played them. He was telling people less than a 2 weeks ago he was running. Don't look for Chuckie S. to come around too much anymore, he is pissed too. You heard it here first. Too bad the local papers don't do any investigative work, they would have one helluva a story.
ReplyDelete10:25--you got to be kidding. No one was turned away, are you kidding me. The district is gerrymandered for a Republican . It would take some like Hein or Cahill to run. Cahill isn't moving he knows he has a good thing going. Same for Hein, 6figure salary and 4 yr term right here at home.
ReplyDeleteactually, the district is not gerrymandered. It's a Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain district. Probably leans Republican, but a strong D can win.
Delete10:55--relax, just heard Elliott Auerbach is considering running for Congress. He could beat a Republican.
ReplyDeleteNo he cannot!! You need someone really strong to beat a Republican candidate.
DeleteMost Ulster Dems seem to be blind to the concept that Hein is no Democratic. That won't be lost on other Dems in this Congressional district.
